Have you ever wanted to write something and get paid for it but didn’t have anyone request that topic? Constant Content is a great place to sell those pieces for top dollar.
Please keep in mind that this is not a site for fiction or poetry. This site focuses specifically on having writers create content for websites and blogs. There are a few calls for white papers but all of the content created is non-fiction.
What is Constant Content?
Constant Content is a site where writers can sell unpublished material for a set price. There are various steps involved initially but once you get through them then you are well on your way to earning a great income. This is not a site where you only select jobs and are paid for them and it’s not a bidding site. It has, at its core, the single best form of residual income out there: multi-use articles. Or as many on the site joke, “write once, sell 50 times!” Constant Content has been around for quite a few years and has improved a lot in that time. It’s a great place for writer of every stripe; beginners to seasoned professionals.
Getting started with Constant Content
Getting started couldn’t be easier. Just head over to constant-content.com and in the left sidebar click on “Write for us.” Fill in the information and click to create an account. This is one of the rare sites that will allow you to use a Pen Name so please use a professional sounding one if you choose to go that route. When you create an account you will be taken to their brief quiz. It’s just a Basic English proficiency quiz so don’t be alarmed.
Because this is easy to miss on the site, I’ll include it here: Both American and British English are fine to use. The only requirement is that you be consistent throughout each article.
Now What?
The most common question after creating an account is “now what do I do?” While it’s up to you, I strongly urge you to click the ‘Help’ button at the top of the page and familiarize yourself with their writer guidelines. These are pretty standard but it helps to know them in advance. Here are the basics:
- 12 point Arial or Times New Roman font
- A minimum 30-word summary of the article
- 1/3 of the article in the long summary
- No hot links
That’s pretty typical and nothing to worry about. Once you have gone over the details you will want to look around at the moneymaking aspects of the site. This is where it gets really good!
Start at your Dashboard
As soon as you login to the site you are taken to your Dashboard. Two things will likely jump out at you, the first being that you haven’t earned any money. The second will be the open requests. Ignore them for a second and scroll down a bit.
Further down on your Dashboard you will see two large tables. One is for recent article sales and the other is for recent search topics. These are constantly being updated and are a great way to see what types of articles are trending. You should get into the habit of checking them often.
The Dashboard is writer friendly, easy to use and you should have no trouble finding your way around. Your first stop should be to create a profile. Including a picture will improve your chances of many writing jobs as well as make it more likely for clients to hire you. Use a logo if nothing else. Beyond that, just wander around and get a feel for it. It’s really simple and even fun.
Making Money through Constant Content
As the name states, there is a constant supply of content on this site. As a writer, you can supply content in a couple of ways. The first is through Requested Content and the second is through article sales.
Requested Content is found on a tab at the top of your Dashboard. This is a list of content pieces that clients need and what they are willing to pay for them. If you think you would be a good fit then you can contact the client and submit an article. If you have an article for sale that matches what the client is looking for you can simply submit that one from the list that will appear. You can of course submit an entirely new and unique article as well.
It’s impossible to guess how much you can make through requested articles because the numbers are anywhere from a low of $10 per article to a high of $250 an article. One very nice part of this transaction is that you can contact the client and the client knows who is writing the article. This often leads to clients posting requests specifically for a particular writer. These private requests are only available to you and can earn you a substantial amount of income. This is also a good way to meet long-term writing clients.
Article sales are the other way to make money on Constant Content and it is probably one of the most lucrative. You write and submit the article. During the submission process you set the fee for the article and this is where it gets interesting. You set fees for different uses and there are three:
- Single Use – allows the buyer to use the content on one website. The content may be sold to other buyers as well.
- Unique Use – The buyer purchases never published content for their exclusive use. They cannot change or alter the work.
- Full Rights – The Buyer owns the work completely and may do as they wish with it.
Typically, the further down on the usage list you go, the higher the fees. You may be happy to sell single use for $50 and sell that piece over and over. Or you may prefer to sell it for $500 and be done with it. Either way, it’s important to remember that you will be getting 65% of the money; Constant Content gets the rest.
You write an article once and can sell it several times as single use. This is very efficient and makes Constant Content a great place to sell articles that you have written but haven’t found a buyer for yet.
Writing an Article for Constant Content
Okay, now you are ready to start making some money. Follow the guidelines and write your article and submit it to the site. There is no writing form here. You write the article and upload the file. This is great because then you always have a copy of it, can use the word processing program that you prefer and if something goes wrong during the submission process you will not lose your work.
There are three writing blocks to fill in during the submission process. These contain your summaries and keywords. Not only will this be used to tell the editor what it is they are about to edit but also to let potential buyers see what the article is about. It’s worth the time and effort to write them to the best of your ability. From personal experience, I can tell you that it’s a good idea to write these in your word processor. I generally use the file name of the article with a ‘.summaries’ at the end. This also ensures that my summaries don’t get lost in the event of a last second glitch during the upload process.
Editing
Nice people, these editors. Constant Content editors aren’t editors in the traditional sense; you are expected to self-edit and ensure proper formatting. The editors here are primarily looking to make sure that the content guidelines are followed. It’s generally a quick process and the more articles you submit the faster the editing seems to be. I have heard of some issues with editors rejecting articles but upon closer examination the rejections were justified. The articles were either a violation of content or very poorly written. If you follow the guidelines you will be fine.
The quick start guide to making money on Constant Content
- Do you have a slew of articles that have no home? Put them up for sale here.
- Read the recently sold articles and trending searches tables. Write articles that fit this criteria.
- Submit articles that are requested. If you have 2-3 articles that match a single request, submit them all. Many buyers buy more than one if the quality is good.
- If you see a topic that interests you but the price is low, submit an article for a higher, but fair, price. Many buyers will buy it if it’s good.
The Writing Pool
After you have submitted at least 10 articles with at least a 60% approval rating you can apply to join one of the writing pools. These are high-dollar writing requests that are only available to their respective writing pools. There are a number of topics and you can apply to as many as you would like. When it comes to requests, this is where the big money is on this site. It’s considered unusual for the fee amount to be under $100 for a single blog post. This is certainly something to consider if you like this site and format of writing.
Payment
Payment is made monthly or semi-monthly via Paypal. There is a minimum payment amount of $5.
