The Muse is an online career platform where users can look for job listings, company profiles, and career advice. Their deputy editor is seeking pitches for “pieces that shed light, provide insight, reframe, and capture zeitgeist when it comes to careers, job searches, work, and work culture.” They’re particularly interested in fresh takes on these topics:

“- Salary, negotiation, money, pay transparency, etc.

– Mental health

BuzzFeed News is a news website by BuzzFeed. They’re accepting pitches for their tech section. Rates are $0.33 per word for essays and $0.50 per word for reported pieces. HipLatina is a website that empowers the Latinx/e community and amplifies their voices. They cover news, entertainment, culture, wellness, beauty, fashion, lifestyle, and family. They’re seeking essays/features/profiles centered on Latinas/Latinx community. Their trending articles are 400-600 words, features/essays are 1,000-1,500 words, and each item in a listicle is at least 75 words. Pay is $150+. Holler is a country music magazine. They’re seeking “US festival reporters, feature writers, album reviewers and potentially news writers in the genres of country, Americana and roots.” Base rate for features will be $210+. Tribeza is Austin’s leading arts and culture magazine. They’re looking for “experienced digital writers (preferably Austin residents) with a pulse on the city’s best restaurants, events, design, wellness, and culture.” Rate is $100-$200 per piece. Time Out is a guide to the best music, film, art, food, hotels, attractions, and things to do in the greatest cities of the world. Maisonneuve is a Montreal-based quarterly of “arts, opinion, and ideas.” They’re seeking pitches (for reported features, essays, comment pieces, and comics) about tech for their next issue. The pitches should have some kind of Canadian connection. Their standard rate is 15 cents per word. Pitches can be sent to lucy@maisonneuve.org. Vulture is an entertainment news website for the culturally obsessed. They cover TV, movies, comedy, music, theater, art, books, and more. Their recommendations editor is seeking “fun, insightful rankings and round-ups for March pegs and beyond.” The editor hasn’t mentioned the rates, but according to this tweet, their rates generally start at $200. The New Statesman is a UK news magazine and website. Their comment editor is looking for pitches and writers: “I’m always keen for subversive / punchy / cheeky ideas. I often run short pieces, pegged to the talking points of the day.” “Particularly keen for writers who are sceptical, thoughtful & don’t fall into predictable camps on culture wars – but not contrarian for the sake of it.” According to payment reports, they pay £100 to £600 per piece. BorderLore is a monthly digital journal that documents, shares, and elevates folklife in the US Southwest and Northern Mexico. They’re looking for pitches: “Got a favorite object? A traditional artifact? A complex thing? Seeking pitches for short personal/reported essays BorderLore’s ARTIFACT section. International Journalists’ Network (IJNet) offers the latest tips, training opportunities, trends, and tools for professional and emerging journalists around the world. They’re looking for tips and tricks that will help journalists globally. Most of their freelancers work in English, but they have also added the opportunity to work in Spanish, Portuguese or Russian. Opportunity for a Product Reviewer: “I’m looking for a budding product reviewer to help run the product writing side of my biz. Michigan Alum is the quarterly magazine of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. They write stories for and about their alumni. They’re accepting pitches on a rolling basis. whynow is an online magazine and production studio that features stories from both emerging and established people in arts, music, and entertainment. They’re open for pitches. They’re seeking “great features, interviews, stories, and reviews in music, art, film and TV.” They usually pay £80-£150 per piece. Pitches can be sent to editors@whynow.co.uk. Stylist Magazine is a weekly magazine and a website for smart, successful, and sophisticated women. Their features editor is commissioning pieces for Stylist Extra for February/March: “I’m after reported features and interesting first-person/essays. Is there a trend you want to properly explore? An experience/event you want to report on? Send your idea my way.” The features editor hasn’t mentioned the rates in their tweet but according to a tweet by Stylist’s entertainment editor, they pay £150 for 800 to 1,000 words. Pride Source is Michigan’s LGBTQ+ news source. Their editorial director has tweeted, “Attention queer writers! I’m looking for pitches that are home-related (home as an actual space OR home as something more conceptual). Looking to assign a story or two this week, so if you’ve got some strong gay home ideas please send ’em my way.” Rate is $100 to $250 (possibly more).
