Write A House is giving away houses – completely free – to writers. They renovate homes and give them to writers. The only catch is the writer needs to live in the house full time and engage in the local community.
The homes are located in Detroit.
According to their website:
“Write A House is a different kind of writer’s residency program. The Detroit writers and urban activists who founded the organization in 2012 did so with this goal: To use vocational training to renovate longtime vacant homes, and then give away these homes to writers. For keeps. Forever. We don’t know of another movement like this, but then Detroit is a unique place. Our idea supports literary arts, vocational education, neighborhood stabilization, and the creation of more vibrant cities.”
They have a number of requirements for potential applicants. They are relatively straightforward. To learn more, be sure to visit their website.
The deadline for applications closes on June 5, 2015.
