LinkedIn has over the years become a platform where freelance writers get high paid writing jobs. In fact, I got some of my highest paying clients from LinkedIn. It’s based on how I was able to build my network and how I made my profile marketable to potential clients.
You might be wondering how writers are able to get clients that pay very well on LinkedIn. In this post, I will share how I got a client that paid up to $2 per word.
To get the best from LinkedIn, follow the steps below:
Have a client-focused profile
The first step you take is to make your LinkedIn profile look very professional. Focus on what your potential clients’ needs and how you can meet that need because clients always want to know if you can deliver the best to them.
Your profile should contain a compelling headline that clearly describes what you do. Don’t use common headlines like “freelance writer”. You can use headline like “Freelance Magazine writer”. It is specific and let clients know what you really do.
You should also pay more attention to your summary because it is another important part of your profile. It should be concise, compelling and professional. Avoid long write-ups; just write what is relevant and what the clients need to see.
With a well-crafted profile, you can land high paying clients because clients only contact professionals who they feel can help them solve their problems.
Create a Network
Creating a good network helps to rank high on search results. It also helps you have a good relationship with other freelance writers which are very important source of referral.
Your network should also involve your clients. You can achieve this by using personal invitations to connect with them.
Be active and always engage your Network
Building a network may not be the problem; the main problem is how to maintain the network after you have built it. Most clients are usually not active on LinkedIn unless they are searching for freelancers to help them out.
One approach I used to make my clients always feel my presence is by congratulating him when he got promoted at his place of work. You can know this when they update their profiles. To celebrate his promotion with me, he asked me to write an article which he paid $2 per word for a 300-word article.
Share resources with your network
Ensure to always share resources with your network. This way, you can build a stronger network faster and better. This also gives you the opportunity to answer questions from clients and other freelance writers. This will also make the clients know that you are good at your field and you can deliver.
One more important method you can use to land high paying clients is by connecting with them personally. I made sure I have a good and personal relationship with all my clients. I always keep in touch with them even when my contract with them expires. This way, they easily remember me when they have any job to be done.
Because of my personal relationship with them, they most times increase their payment rate with each new job I get from them. For instance, a client paid me $0.70 per word for a previous job. He then paid me $1 per word for the next job because of my help to him even when he had no more jobs for me. Since then we became friends. With his influence, he linked me up to one of his friends who paid me $2 per word for all the articles I wrote for him.
Use the blog tool
You can use the LinkedIn’s bloglink tool to pull your blog onto your LinkedIn profile page. Your blog posts will appear in the blogrolls of all your connection that also use the blog tool. This will help you keep them updated with your activities.
Answer questions on LinkedIn
One way to make clients know that you are good at what you do is when you solve other people’s problems by answering questions they asked that relates to your own field. You attract interest from both clients and even other freelance writers that have many jobs to do.
