Do you want to create a podcast, but don’t have the time, money, or necessary skillset? Do you have a great idea for a podcast, but don’t know how to market it?
If so, Google is offering up to $40,000, mentorship, and 20 weeks of training to help you create a podcast from the ground up.
They want to lower the barrier of entry to joining the podcast industry, and to increase the diversity of voices in podcasting.
According to their application page:
“We are holding this open call for podcast ideas from around the world. The six teams we select will receive up to US $40,000, mentorship, and 20 weeks of training, in Boston and virtually at scheduled intervals. The training will start July 29, 2019 and conclude the week of December 9, 2019.
The deadline has been extended: Applications will now be accepted until 23:59 ET on April 28, 2019. All applicants will be notified either way by email by May 31, 2019.
It’s an exciting time in podcasting, whether you live somewhere with a thriving podcast industry or a place where people are just starting to learn about podcasts.
However, to be successful, it takes more than just a good idea. You need a strong sense of who you are making your podcast for, why you are the right person or team to do it, and a clear-eyed understanding of the work it takes to keep it going. Your responses will be essential to the selection process. “
