Atlas Obscura and Gastro Obscura have Updated their Pitch Guidelines

Atlas Obscura is a guide to the hidden wonders of the world. Gastro Obscura is their food/drink vertical. They have updated their pitch guidelines. They want articles that are “deeply rooted in our physical world, and have a strong sense of place.” The majority of their commissioned articles are between 800 and 1,500 words. SECWP is Looking for Stories on Whistleblowing and Whistleblowers

The Southeast Europe Coalition on Whistleblower Protection (SECWP) is seeking pitches for “fresh journalistic stories on whistleblowing and whistleblowers in the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine.” They will pay $500 per article. Planetizen is Always Accepting Feature Articles

Planetizen is “a fiercely independent platform that creates, curates, and amplifies stories and resources to inform planning and people passionate about planning.” They’re always accepting feature article pitches that offer an expert lens to the key planning issues of today. They pay professional writers a flat fee of $500 for a feature or career-related article. For more information, refer to their post and this page.

Trucha is Accepting Pitches

Trucha is an independent multimedia platform that covers topics and issues that affect the Rio Grande Valley. They’re accepting pitches from both new writers and seasoned pros. They publish articles on the following topics: “immigration, reproductive justice, LGBTQ issues, climate justice, regional arts and culture, racial justice, and more.” They pay $0.50/word for longform features (800 to 1,200 words); $0.40/word for op-ed/commentary pieces (600 to 800 words); $0.40/word for Q&A features/interview highlights (600 to 800 words); and $0.30/word for Instagram articles (250 to 300 words). In Practice is Looking for Pitches

In Practice is a new editorial space by Healing Justice London. Their editorial steward is seeking “both on spec and pitches on the themes of disability justice, grief work, survivor work, politicised somatics, community-led research, abolition, community-building, and themes in and around these.” Starting rates are £100 to £400 depending on the piece. Current Affairs is Accepting Pitches

Current Affairs is a magazine of political commentary and analysis. They’re accepting pitches. They have two publication formats: a print edition and an online edition. Their main articles for print are around 3,000 to 4,500 words, while online articles are around 1,200 to 2,400 words. Payment rates are $300 for print articles and $200 for online articles. PCMag is Seeking a Freelance Weekend News Writer

PCMag is a source of tech news and reviews. They’re looking for a Freelance Weekend News Writer (located in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia) for 3-4 stories a day on Saturdays and Sundays.
