Texas Monthly is a magazine and website that covers Texas news, politics, culture, food, travel, history, music, crime, and more. Their editor is looking for style and design pitches: “send me ideas for fashion and lifestyle essays, reported features, and service pieces that reveal something to the reader about the state of the state.” Rate is around $0.50/word. Orlando Weekly is the Central Florida area’s alternative source for news, entertainment, music, arts, culture, and more. Their editor-in-chief has tweeted, “Seeking Orlando/CFL-specific social justice story pitches: racism, immigration, disability access, gay or trans identity, aging, policing, housing equity—Pay is in the low-mid 4 figures range for a longform (2,500 words or more) story or series.” They prefer writers from historically underrepresented groups. The Independent is an online British newspaper. They’re accepting pitches for fun/clever/entertaining music things. Voices of Disability Economic Justice Project is a commentary series by The Century Foundation’s Disability Economic Justice Team. There are a lot of events coming up in March, including Women’s History Month, Developmental Disabilities Month, and Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month. Good Beer Hunting publishes insight-driven analyses, stories, and interviews on the beer industry. Vainqueur is a new Canadian fashion culture and lifestyle platform. They’re accepting pitches from “students (BDes), stylists, journalists, and photographers interested in Canadian fashion and lifestyle editorial.” They will pay $0.75 CAD a word for articles that are over 500 words and $1 CAD a word for articles that are less than 500 words. Yes! Magazine is an independent and nonpartisan publisher of solutions journalism. They’re looking for pitches for their forthcoming THIRST issue. Texas Highways is the official travel magazine of Texas. They cover travel, culture, food, history, and more. They’re always accepting pitches for print and web stories. The pitches should have “a travel angle or a strong sense of place and/or Texas culture.” Rates for web stories are $0.50 per word with the majority of stories being capped between 500 and 700 words. Guardian Australia’s opinion editor is seeking evergreen pitches that can be published at any time over the next few months. If you want to share a funny experience, a heartfelt story, an everyday gripe, or a niche interest, then email cif.australia@theguardian.com. Pay: $300AUD per piece. Lonely Planet offers travel guides and information. They’re seeking expert contributors for a guidebook for Japan. The contributors should have excellent writing skills and a deep love and understanding of Japan. Ideally, the writers should be living in Japan or have extensively traveled it in the past 18 months. Spacing is a magazine that “uncovers the joys, obstacles and politics of Canada’s big cities.” They’re looking for pitches: “Our next issue of Spacing is themed around ‘City on Fire’. How has fire – broadly and creatively defined – shaped Toronto?” Most of their cover section articles are 1,000 words. They’re also interested in other stories on Toronto’s public space and urbanism. It’s Freezing in LA! (IFLA!) is an independent magazine about climate change. They’re looking for:

In These Times is a progressive magazine and website committed to covering and analyzing popular movements for economic, environmental, social, gender, and racial justice. They are seeking dispatches (750 to 850-word first or third person essays) related to rural and/or environmental issues. Rate is around $375.
