The National Radio Project’s Making Contact accepts pitches from writers for produced radio segments that will be distributed online as well as on a variety of radio stations.
They just raised their rates. They now pay $500 to $800, depending on the type of story you are producing, your experience level, and more. The previous pay was a fixed $450 for 6-8 minute segments.
They want stories that link grassroots issues and human realities to national or international trends.
To pitch:
“Write a one or two paragraph description of idea, including potential interviewees. If you haven’t submitted work to Making Contact before, send links or mail samples of your work. Making Contact is not a news program; it delves deeper into the economic, social, and political issues underlying the news headlines.”
Pitches should be sent via email.
They have an extensive editorial process once a pitch as been accepted.
