As I’ve written about before, the market for online writing has started to hit its stride. There are increasing numbers of websites that pay professional rates to freelance writers, and have the business model that can support that level of pay in the long term.
The transition away from print has finally started to result in fair pay for writers. It is certainly still challenging to successfully build a career as a freelance writer, but the opportunities seem to be growing. In the last week, our researcher, Fatima Saif, has found five publications that pay up to $1 per word – and are seeking pitches from freelance writers.
You’ll notice that much of our research has turned to Twitter, which can be a valuable source of information for freelancers. Editors are sometimes quite active on Twitter. If you’re looking to build relationships with editors, Twitter can be a great place to start.
Also, if you are unsure about pitching any of these publishers, please read this first.
