The Short Story Award, an annual competition with the world’s largest prize for a single short story.
After opening for submissions in October, the deadline is now just one week away. They close for submissions on December 4th.
Sponsored by Amazon-owned Audible, they are offering a grand prize of a whopping £30,000, which equals almost $38,000 USD.
There will also be five shortlisted winners, who will each receive £2,000. That’s £1,000 for the award, plus another £1,000 for their story to be published in audio-book format by Audible.
For most writers, you will need to start working now to be eligible to enter next year. Why? Part of the goal of the contest is to encourage authors to start publishing their work in the UK. To that end, entrants will need to have a record of at least one publication in the UK or Ireland with an established publication.
The extra effort of getting published – so you can have the chance at winning the grand prize – seems well worth the effort.
In previous years, the total prizes, fees, and awards equaled £40,000, or over $50,000 USD.
For those authors ready to enter this year, the story must be no more than 6,000 words.
The deadline to enter is December 4th, 2020.
